Can you provide detailed examples of cloud computing?

Q. I'm really fascinated with the concept, but I'm not too sure how it works in practice. Can you provide some examples of how a business or individual can use cloud computing, and maybe how I use it every day without knowing it? Thanks a lot.
By the way, when Limewire was around and people shared files through its server, was that somehow cloud computing?

A. Google Docs is an example of cloud computing - the app is on the server. (It's a throwback to the 70s.) Limewire is filesharing, not cloud computing.

How do businesses migrate to Cloud Computing?
Q. I need a little more details on how businesses migrate to Cloud Computing as part of a research project. Thanks in advance

A. Business users can check the following segments as they are quite matured as Cloud SaaS offerings:

â¢CRM (Customer Relationship Management)
â¢Productivity & Collaboration Applications (Project management, eMail, online documents, spreadsheets, presentations etc) Example - Google Apps., Zoho
â¢Cloud based Storage and Sharing services. (Example - Dropbox, Skydrive (windows live), Amazon S3, Box.net)

Also you can host your website, blog etc on the Cloud (IaaS); provided it has enough traffic to justify a move :-)

You can find a simple & detailed analysis here:

Besides advertising on the regular internet, how else does Google make money or plan on making money?
Q. I hear about Goog getting into cloud computing and how it really doesn't make any money off it's droid.

Anybody got any info on Google?

A. In addition to advertising, people pay money for SEO and analytics. People are always willing to pay for information, and Google collects a lot of it.
