A. I would recommend virtualizing because that's the only way you can really do it. Download the OS from here http://gdgt.com/google/chrome-os/download/ download either virtual box or vmware player.
Tbh it's not ready for normal use, if it's just because you wanna try it give it a go. It's basically a web browse,but that's the idea of an CLOUD OS.

Can I download Google Chrome OS on my computer?
Q. Supposely Google Chrome OS is going to be coming out this week. I know it is suppose to be for net books, but could I download it for my main computer?
A. kaloo knows nothing the websites a fake. Google chrome OS will come out in the next 1-2 years google chrome is not finished for linux it is still in the developer stage. So why would they release it.

Also how long do you think until they will be out and available, I know Google Chrome OS is due to be finished and official released later this year, but will a tablet already be available ?
A. The price is going to depend on the hardware. Maybe $50-$100 less than their Windows 7 counterpart.
I've seen some Chinese made Android/Chrome tablets that are being marketed for under $100 in domestic stores, which means that they will be maybe $200 if they get to the US due to tax and company markups.
I've also seen some Android/Chrome tablets that have an estimated price of over $700, but less if you take out a data contract.
Some tablets are on sale right now, mostly only in Asia. So the hardware will be ready in the US by the sumer this year, and most certainly in time for the holiday sales in fall/winter.
At best guess, aim to save $500. That will but you an iPad. Everybody is aiming to either undercut the iPad in terms of price, or to beat it in terms of performance, so if you can afford an iPad then you will be able to afford the competition, too.
