How do I find someone's address if they are not listed in the phone book?
Q. I'm trying to find someone's home address but I cant find them in the phone book. I know the city in which they live, and I was wondering if anyone knew if the city's town hall would provide that information to me.

A. Here are some tips :

1. Google search.

Do a search in several different ways : variations of the persons first, last, middle names, state, country, etc. Today, search engines contain billions of records listed on forums, myspace, etc.

2. here are other free people and email address search resources :

What would happen if everyone gets rid of their landline phone?
Q. Does that mean that there would start to be new white pages phone books of only cell phone numbers if everyone uses cell phones nowadays and not a landline phone anymore? Due to this economy, that may eventually happen.

A. Cell phone numbers are not currently published. I think it should stay that way, personally. I think phone books are a huge waste of paper. When was the last time you even opened one when you can just do a quick google search? I haven't had a landline since about 2002 and I don't miss it at all.

Is there someone that can tell me how to paint a refrigerator from white to black ?

Q. I've tried to find out on Google & the phone book, without success. Thank you in advance, rie

A. In the hardware store paint section, they have spray paint just for appliances. If you have a really slick surface, you may want to sand it with a fine sandpaper first. If it is the textured one, then just spray light coats and let them dry good in between. If you try to cover it in one coat, you can get runs. If you get any runs......sand lightly and repaint that section.

How do I find articles from old magazines?

Q. For example, I'm looking for an article published in Psychology Today in 1978, and other similar hard-to-find out-of-print articles. I don't need the actual back-issue, just access to the article online. Google and books.google come up with nothing, but I imagine there must be some database like Lexis-Nexis, except that Lexis-Nexis is just for business articles I believe. Any thoughts?

A. Most magazines have an archive. Try searching at the magazine website under archives.

Q. Needed for US Gov project and I forgot my text book. Google has failed me, so ASAP help would be nice.
I dont think that they are the things from the preamble. I recall somthing about morals and justice.

A. - that the leaders are honest
- that one's vote counts
- that one has freedom of speech
- that one has freedom of religion
- that all are equal before the law

What are four opinions Supreme Court Justices can write when deciding upon a case?
Q. Please and Thank y0u! i found one more i cant find in my book. google is really no help.

A. I think the four opinions are:

1) Majority opinion - This is the ruling of five of the nine Justices and becomes the presiding ruling (outcome). One Justice authors the majority opinion.

2) Concurring -- This is an opinion written by one or more of the Justices when they agree with the ruling, but would like to say more or present additional thoughts regarding the case

3) Dissenting -- This is an opinion written by one or more of the Justices who do not agree with the ruling; in the dissenting opinion, they explain their reasoning for their dissent and provide their rebuttal of the majority's ruling.

4) Per curiam -- This is an opinion issued by and for the entire court rather than by one judge writing for the court (as opposed to a majority opinion).

Good luck!

What is a good Translator site besides Google Translator?
Q. Well, I have a few friends who speak different languages, and they don't mind at all when I send them stuff translated into their language. So lately, I have been using Google Translator, since that's the only site I know of, and I was trying to translate a sentence into Filipino.

I sent the sentence to my friend, and he told me that half the sentence was messed up. I was wondering is there are any very good Translator Sites out there besides Google Translator.

A. It's the only one. What you do is you grab the Filipino text and you put it back into the box and switch languages with the arrow thingy. Then you translate that back into English and you will see: if it gives you crap translation instead of what you typed, then you have to rephrase your English to make it hyper simple.

Ex: instead of "I hear you guys are getting along well" write "You and ____ are friends now, yes?" (Pay attention to the punctuation and use it wherever appropriate: without proper punctuation, meaning changes when translating!)

Because idioms or expressions just don't translate well in other languages so KISS (keep it simple silly!)

Otherwise there is babelfish.yahoo.com but that is 100 times worse than Google and it messes up a lot and there's also freetranslation.com but they changed the format and now it turns the same stuff as Babel.

Basically there are ONLY 2 free ones on the net: Babel & Google. If you google free translators and try the others you will ALWAYS get the same results as either babel or google.

So bottom line? Simplification here is your friend. There are many ways of saying something. Always think as if you were talking to someone very stupid when using translators, like people in 70's movies talking to Native American Indians. How!

Thanks for my thumbs up and BA! =)

Why do people answer questions from Google Translator?
Q. I think if people wanted the Google Translator to tell them they would look it up themself easily. Google Translator is hard to get an accurate translation unless you are familiar with the language already.

A. haha! I was just about to ask this question.

They think they are 'trying to help' when in fact they don't have a clue how inaccurate Google Translate is and are only just confusing the asker. Probably just doing it to get their 2 points - stupid really, I don't see the point in answering if they don't even know the answer.

Also, I love the way they're usually very condescending about it as well - 'Oh well, you could've just used Google Translate if you weren't so lazy!' - just no! Really winds me up.

Q. I have an HP computer about 30 feet away from my lcd LG television that I would like to be able to transmit video from the computer to the television. My wife would prefer I do this without running a long cord from one to the other across the house. Any ideas?

This is relatively new technology but some of the devices seem reasonably priced.

What's the difference between Trados and Google translation?

Q. Is Trados better than Google translation?

A. They are different things.
Google translation is an automatic translator, it performs automatic literal translations of texts from a language into another. (If you are wondering, no, these machines don't do good translations)
Trados is a so called software for computer-assisted translation that many professional translators use: it does not translate automatically, it's just a tool to support the (human) translator's job.
