As a business owner, do you think that google places ranking makes difference?

Q. I am thinking about getting my google places ranking, this will require me to pay someone! So if you have experience with this share your experience please? Do you think it is helpful to rank higher?

A. Yes. We've had a website for our business here in London for a few years now but never saw much of a benefit in terms of bringing new customers, before summer this year we paid a UK based company for search engine optimization services and their package included a Google Places ranking service. Now we get new customers coming in all the time and nearly all of them say that they have found us through the local Google search (google places). So I would say, it definitely makes a difference.

How long Google Places takes to update the listing profile?
Q. I have made some changes to my google places profile and after 4 days still waiting for them to update these. Does anyone know how long it might take? Thanks in advance!

A. Usually pretty quick. Google is PR10 and they crawl their own pages or any PR9+ website every few minutes.
Try pinging your profile url at bulkping.com
Just paste your profile address into the form and ping. Shouldn't be necessary really.

What's the difference between Google Maps & Google Places?
Q. I went through the whole Places form and when I was finished it looked just like my Maps listing. Am I missing something? And if so, what can I do to take advantage of Google Places? My listing includes all contact and business info including web site links and photos. What else?

A. Google Maps is just a collection of maps and locations whereas Google Places is information about a specific location on Google Maps. If you login to your Places account, it will prompt you to fill in any information you have missed.

A. google is like a way way BIG company. It might take some times...

How do you update Google places fast?
Q. I work for a marketing company - I need to do some work for a client and I need to get them on Google places asap - any help??

A. I haven't heard of any way to speed up Google, other than making sure you have set it up properly so there are no delays getting things corrected, Google says it takes up to 2 weeks.

In the mean time you could also start getting citations on other online super/yellow type pages, you can also find paid services that trickle listings onto a bunch of directories, being very consistent in the information form is important. It seems citations and reviews don't have the power they once did, the ranking of the company site seems to be a big factor in ranking a place page as well.

How do you get your business website to pop out with the large alphabetic marker on google?
Q. My website has been up for months on google places and adwords, but it shows up as a little dot hidden behind large markers of my competitors. How do I get it to have a large marker as well as show up on the left side of the map as text? Please help :(

A. Google Places Pages are ranked somewhat differently than regular web pages. The number of citations on other directory sites like Yellow pages, super pages or yelp and the number of reviews on the Places page are important factors, more established businesses with older listings probably have an edge. Be sure to use the exact same addres form in all listings to insure they are recognized as the same place.

Clicking "More results for..". under the 7 Places Pages labeled A-G on page 1, brings up a longer listing of pages, it pays off to be on page 1 and ideally the first result.

Be sure your have your places page fully developed, with all appropriate categories checked as well as added descriptive text to expand the number of searches it appears for.

How to get top listings for google places?
Q. how we can get rankings for Google places please let me know and which things to do and some submissions then please provide that websites list too

A. Take a look at your competitors. What do their websites look like, are they optimized, do they have reviews on third party sites? You have to convince Google that you are the best. You have to campaign. There are many different variables that determine why some places pages rank higher than others, but you first need to look at your website. Is it optimized? Think about your website as a candidate and what you do away or outside of your site to funnel traffic to it as a campaign. Do you do anytihing like this? You can't win the Kentucky Derby with a Shetland and you can't win the Indy 500 in a Prius. You need a well optimized web site first, then you need to campaign for it. This is considered on and off page SEO. If your website sucks, it's a waste of time and money to run an off page campaign. I recommend investing in a website that is built to communicate to search engines, rather than to just look pretty, then do some link building on your own, or hire a firm that understands search. NO ONE can guarantee to get you to the top. Beware and do your homework. You can't game Google, but there is an entire industry dedicated to helping people like yourself who don't have a clue how to play the game. Take advantage of it. If you don't want to spend money to do this, you shouldn't be in business. If your competitors are already up there without ever doing anything, lucky them. This can easily change with money spent on proper campaigning and playing by Google's rules.
